Why do Chicago animal statues have penises?

The Bull or Moose

This statue is located on Michigan Ave. right by the NBC building. I can't tell if it is a moose or bull or deer. It is by a crowded area and is anatomically correct. I don't understand why it has a sex organ. I mean it's good that it has it and all for the fact that it is being as real as possible. But in the world we live in today, where everything that could offend is hidden, it doesn't make sense. The funny thing is that it is hard to notice.

Looks like other people found it, since somebody spray painted it.

The Native American Horses

There are two Native American warrior statues facing each other on each side of Congress Street. These sort of have a reason to have a penis, but not really a good one. You could say that they have them to show how masculine and strong they are. I don't think that makes the statues more meaningful. At the time that these were made, maybe it meant more. These penises you also have to look for. The last penis has a bunch of beehives in it, which I think is funny.
